About Us

Catch the Fire is a quarterly evening of informal worship held at Glenrothes Salvation Army.  It is a regular and valued part of our varied ministry.

The basic premise is to allow people to worship at their level - whatever that may be.  With a mixture of sung worship; Scripture readings and thoughts based on the Word; Videos; songs from our worship group; and much more - there really is something for everyone.

The main emphasis is on freedom - so there is no formal plan to the evening. This sometimes makes the evening a little disjointed, but it guarantees that God's plan is fulfilled.

What we are attempting is nothing new.  We are just attempting to provide another style of worship for people - another access point to bring them to Jesus.

In the late 1800's, William Booth, co-founder of The Salvation Army, revolted against the style of the church services of his day. (Must point out this is not what we are doing although we do see problems in some churches).  The services Booth encountered, recalls General John Larsson (R), "were often characterised by sombre and cold formality, and consisted of predictable and uninspiring worship rituals, unrelated to the interests, aspirations and needs of the congregation.  William Booth had every sympathy with those who stayed away.  The meetings were boring."  So Booth went on to introduce a very different style of worship to the meetings of The Salvation Army.  Larsson continues, "out went unwelcoming formality. In came warmth of worship, informality, joy, hearty singing, participation through prayer and testimony, the note of praise, and Bible messages that spoke to the hearts of the hearers, challenging them to decision.  There was even a place for humour, and always room for the unexpected.  Freedom was a characteristic.  The meetings were inspirational."

And so we find the reason for CtF:G's existence.  All of the above is our aim.  And God is always at the centre of it all.
